McDaniel Wins Again

Ryan McDaniel and crew headed to Diamond Mountain Speedway in Susanville, CA to compete on Saturday, July 24, 2010. Ryan was able to beat a 20 car Modified field and score another win this season. Last weekend, Ryan won on Friday night in Chico, picked up a Super Stock win on Saturday in Marysville and was close to a clean sweep of the weekend, where he was battling for the lead when he broke in Merced on Sunday.

Ryan McDaniel travelled to the historic Calistoga Speedway over the Memorial Day weekend to compete at the fastest 1/2 mile dirt track on the West Coast. The event was limited to the first 50 entries received, making it an exclusive group, all competing for a $1,200 to win feature on both Saturday and Sunday nights.

On Saturday night, Ryan won the race, after it was shorted due to curfew and a very scary wrecking involving 3 cars. Ryan had held on to his freshly skinned and lettered Harris chassis on the very rough racing surface. Ryan had taken control of the race when it was red flagged for the second flip of the evening in the Modifieds. Ryan took home the trophy and the winner's prize but had to come back the next night and battle all over again.

Sunday would be a completely different race. This time it did not involve any shortening or massive wrecks. It featured some great racing throughout the field of 24 cars. Good friend of Ryan, Kellen Chadwick, started on the pole and early on looked like he might have control of the race aftering opening a good lead over the field. Ryan found himself running third at the start of the race and knew he would have to be patient early and wait for his time. Within a few laps, he had moved into second and looked to track down Chadwick. A caution flag flew which would give the good friends a chance to battle it out for the victory.

After keeping up with Chadwick for several laps after the restart and looking for an opening, Ryan finally made his move on the 9th lap. Entering turn 1 on the high side, he dove his car to the bottom of turn 2 and tried to drag race down the long back straight. It worked just like he had hoped. He was able to pull ahead before entering turn 3. He had the lead with half the race left. A couple of late cautions provided some drama but Ryan was able to hold on and claim a well earned victory. Clean Sweep! On both nights, Ryan won every event he entered. Two heat wins and two feature wins!

Ryan McDaniel starts to turn his car down the track in turn 2 and would drive under great friend Kellen Chadwick to take the lead in Calistoga on Sunday, May 30th.

Ryan McDaniel picked up two wins last weekend running his Harris Modified. Ryan, who recently changed his car number from the familar #10 to 44x in honor of his grandfather who passed away recently, ran Friday night at nearby Chico's Silver Dollar Speedway on April 30th. Ryan won the feature and his Dad, Randy, finished second. On Saturday night May 1st, the two ran at even closer to home, Marysville Raceway. Ryan again picked up the victory and dear old Dad earned another hard fought second place. Two nights, two wins and two seconds for the McDaniel family!

Eric Turner led the dirt modified field to the green flag. The race was quickly slowed when Mark Abouzeid was spun around by another driver in turn four. Abouzeid was done for the night after the shove and go. Turner led on the restart only to be passed by Jeff Olschowka. For the next 16 laps it was Olschowka dominating the race. On lap 12 disaster struck for second place Turner. Going into turn one he was racing with a slower car and had to check up. In doing so he had contact with another car that resulted in him going upside down in turn one. The red flag was waived and Turner got out of the car uninjured.

Olschowka led the charge back to the green flag. Randy McDaniel was all over Olschowka for the lead. However, on lap 15 McDaniel clipped the inside white tire that bent his left front tire. For the final laps McDaniel literally drove with three tires pointed in the right direction. With problems to his dad, Ryan McDaniel saw an opening. He drove around Kellen Chadwick and his father to move into second. He used the high line to perfection and drove around Olschowka for the lead. Ryan McDaniel led the final two nights to get the opening night win. “The track was rough tonight and I’m wore out,” said McDaniel. “Every part on this car will probably need to be tightened before tomorrow nights race.” Olschowka finished second. Kellen Chadwick ran up to the third spot. Richard Papenhausen had a strong run to finish fourth while Jeff Chew rounded out the top five.
